Project Night

Thursdays 6-9pm

Got the bug for fixing tech and electronics?

Then come along to our regular meetup and be a part of the new repair revolution.

What is it?

We don’t know exactly what it is yet…that depends on you - the enthusiasts who come along and fix and make stuff. We very much expect this to evolve over time.

But this is where we’re starting from…

It’s a weekly meetup for working on your own repairs and developing skills in a supportive and social setting.

Repair Club - Project Night is run by fixers for other fixers, with everyone paying a £15 monthly membership sub and putting some time/energy/imagination into running it.

You don’t need to have masses of experience to join, but it is intended for maker-tinkerers with a solid level of self-sufficiency as there will be no classes*, instructors or support staff (although there will always be a first aider and a safety leader present) - if you’re familiar with Maker or Hackspaces you’ll know the score. If you’re totally new to fixing/electrical/electronics you may be better off joining Fixing Factory as a volunteer and signing up for the Future Fixers training modules.

What’s in the Space?

Queen’s Crescent Fixing Factory is a very compact (read: small!), moderately equipped community electrical and electronics repair workshop which is developing all the time…activities revolve around repairing small domestic appliances characterised as ‘from Hair Dryer to Air Fryer’ with audio gear and laptops caught in the net along the way.

Current facilities:

  • Space for 6 people to work around the main tables in the workshop itself.

  • Space for 6 more to work in the wider building.

  • Plenty of soldering irons (Hakko and Ksger), hot air stations, desoldering equipment, scopes, bench power supplies, PAT and insulation testers, thermal camera, DMMs, digital scope, solvents and lubricants, hand tools, so so many cables/leads/chargers…and an ever growing collection of security screwdrivers.

  • Delta 3d printer (coming soon).

Not currently offered:

  • Spare parts or components (except current and thermal fuses).

  • Project storage (you’ll need to take everything home each night).

  • Training or project support.

  • All the gear still being dreamt of…

Membership subscription is £15 per month, or £5 for a taster session (we want people to join and be part of a community, as this intended to be a community initiative and not a ‘rent a bench’ service). Everyone will be taken through an initial workshop safety induction. Regular members will be encouraged to host sessions and run inductions for new members. The subscription fee is intended to cover the running costs for the evening itself plus contribute to the overall costs of Queen’s Crescent Fixing Factory to support its journey to becoming financially self-sustaining. We can also offer concession rates based on financial hardship.

*unless Repair Club members decide to run them for each other - a feature we hope to see in the future.
