Frequently asked questions about volunteering
-
Volunteering is most effective for an organisation and most rewarding to an individual volunteer when it's a regular commitment - you get to know systems and people and in a new group such as this have a chance to make your mark. Volunteering sessions are usually 3.5 to 4 hours long - this is not a small commitment, so we ask you to imagine being able to commit this time either weekly or fortnightly (equivalent of 2 hours per week). You are of course welcome to volunteer more time, which is much appreciated.
-
We’ll give you a warm welcome and a thorough induction to help you feel settled and supported in your volunteer role. You’ll learn all about who we are, along with key essentials like health and safety. Depending on your role, there might be additional training to complete before you get started, but don’t worry — your volunteer manager will guide you through everything you need to know.

We provide all equipment needed for your role, for example repair tools or a laptop. We can also reimburse you for London based travel and other reasonable expenses related to volunteering with us.
-
If you want to become a Fixer, you can initially volunteer in one of our Administrator roles and then be eligible to take on our Future Fixers learning modules. Future Fixers is only available to long term volunteers, so you’ll have to commit some time to us before you can take part. You can read more about Future Fixers here.
